Sunday's Best

Tie Crop (Similar) | Ann Taylor Skirt (1, 2, 3) | Splendid Espadrille Sandals

I found myself in a bit of a predicament when traveling home this Spring Break. That being, for the first time in my life I managed to not overpack, which BIG move for me, but not surprisingly I found myself needing many things and not having them. So here's to say I will be returning to my usual tactics, but I made an effort and found an opportunity to style an outfit so can't be mad! Anyway, one thing I failed to bring was an outfit for Church. Going to mass is a typical Sunday afternoon activity for my family and I could use a little Jesus in my life so I needed to throw together an outfit. I thought what more fitting than to bring out some of my Mom's old, but not to be forgotten, Sunday best attire! Rummaging through her closet I found this lovely vintage Ann Taylor midi skirt and it fit like a glove! A sign from the heavens I'd say! Since I was wearing my Mom's skirt I decided to style the rest of the look based off of her style with some slight modifications to add a personal touch. This outfit is approved by Mom and me not just for Church goers, but for any summer outing where you are looking to upgrade from your usual!

Also if you're thinking the exposed midriff is a bit scandalous for church don't worry I threw on a sweater. For the shoes, I chose a pair of platform espadrille style sandals from Splendid (cute and comfy, win win). Not only are these my Mom's favorite, but I thought the woven accents tied together well with the leafy pattern on the skirt to give the overall look a tropical summer feel. Also, I chose these shoes so that it could balance out the harsh white in the top, which is a great way to get away with wearing two shades of white!

Aside from my Mom's skirt, a number of other pieces I regularly wear come from her closet believe it or not. My Mom is definitely a "collector" which comes in handy. Especially in terms of clothes since it has led her to hold onto some of the BEST pieces. The skirt worn in this look is just one of many, but the best part of my Mom's collection? Without a doubt, her collection of vintage beaded purses. The one worn in this outfit is my absolute favorite. Partially because of the dark maroon color, but also because it has the most intricate beading details of the collection. Each of these bags is truly a unique work of art. With that, they are very delicate so not the best every day purse, but whenever there is an opportunity to add a pop of color or statement to a look they do the job beautifully. I personally love to pair these bags with a simple distressed jeans, tank, and heels combo to let the purse steal the show. Sadly, this exact one was purchased many moons ago from a little boutique in Long Beach, but there are many similar ones out there! I even did some searching on my own and managed to find a very similar purse from Unique Vintage! I linked this along with a few others below ~
